Emerald Ironworks was founded 28 years ago by its current Owner and President, Michael Patrick Pigott.  Mike was born in Youghal, Ireland, a town on the southeast coast of County Cork.  At the age of 17 Mike went to London where he served as a blacksmith's apprentice.  During this time he learned to fabricate metal products the old-fashioned way: with heat and hammer.

After spending several years on the high-seas, Mike found himself in the United States.  Here he returned to the metal working trade including positions at various steel fabricators in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.  In 1981 though, Michael acted on a long-time dream by opening an ornamental fabrication shop of his own.

Emerald Ironworks started humbly enough in the garage of Michael's first family home, but in less than 2 years it was occupying its first industrial space.  Today Emerald Ironworks utilizes a 9,000 square foot space in Woodbridge, Virginia, a suburb 20 miles south of Washington, DC.

As an ironworks, Emerald has the capacity to fabricate most anything out of metal, but driveway gates and railings of distinction remain Michael's passion and therefore the company's focus.  Michael's son Justin grew up in the company and has been managing it since graduating with an economics degree from the University of Virginia in 2005.  He hopes to only improve upon the standard set by his father.
